GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CAMPDRAFTING
|
Can any type of horse compete ? Any breed, any size of horse can compete.
Do I need special equipment ?
SADDLE: Any type of Saddle with two points of attachment, ie double buckle/surcingle.
BRIDLE & BIT: Any sort of bridle or bit, even a bitless bridle is allowed. However, TC&TP Inc expect to see split reins for safety reasons.
RIDER: Fully buttoned collared shirt, long trousers, safe flat soled boots.
HATS: Junior and Juvenile must wear approved safety helmets. Otherwise your choice but no caps.
ARTIFICIAL AIDS: Only allowed in Junior, Juvenile and ladies and that is a running martingale. No tie downs.
What do I have to do ?
In the Camp the rider must select a particular beast and show the Judge that they can
control his movements away from the other cattle before asking for the gate to be opened onto the main arena.
The Judge may award up to 26 points for the horse & rider’s cattle handling
abilities here. Loss of the beast back to the group twice or turning the horse’s tail toward the beast (the horse must always face his beast), will result in elimination.
On the Arena the Judge will have set a right or left hand course. The rider must guide his beast around the first two pegs in a figure eight pattern, either right or left first, before going through the “gate” in 40 seconds.
Eliminations occur for going outside the pegs, through the gate backwards, running a beast into the arena fence, or losing control of the horse.
Points—Riders are awarded 2 points for achieving the first peg, and 1 for the second peg and the gate. If they achieve the first peg they are also awarded up to 70 “horsemanship” points on the way they have handled their horse and the beast around the course. The maximum points score achievable is 100.
Rules - The ACA will send each new member their own ACA Rule Book with their Membership Card.
Meetings – We hold regular Committee meetings to conduct business during the season to which all members are invited to attend to find out what is happening and contribute their thoughts and ideas. These are mostly held after drafts and occasionally in a central location like Ross when necessary. Dates and times and procedures are included in the Club’s Newsletter.
Newsletter – Is sent out after each draft with Results and any other upcoming news from
Committee and also available online, Meetings or Individual Members as required. For Sales are also included for Members. Email is the preferred option for sending out Information whenever possible, as contact is much quicker than conventional mailing.
Finals – These are held as the final draft of the season, usually in April.
Qualification is currently for THE HORSE to have completed 3 drafts in the section you wish to enter at the Finals during the year e.g. to compete in the Finals Novice Draft you would have to have completed 3 Novice Drafts during the current season and so on for each section. From 2009 horses which have qualified for 3 Events may also enter the Open Draft at the Finals if they so wish.
Futurity Qualification : Only horses which have placed 1st to 4th during the Season are eligible.
Sponsorship – To provide for a successful Finals event we are always looking for any help from Sponsorship with regard to trophies, prizes or money to buy trophy rugs etc. Speak to one of the Committee if you are able to help or know some contacts who would be keen to support us.
Hi Points – These are accrued over the season for placing's from 1st (4 points) to 4th (1 point) in each event.
Each Hi Point Winner receives an embroidered saddle blanket, which is usually provided by a Sponsor.
